Baby Beach Day Essentials

Baby Beach Day Essentials

On the west coast we’ve been getting such hot weather – that means it’s time for a baby beach day! As a beach lover who is passionate about sun safety, I believe having the right gear is crucial to a fun and relaxing beach day with your baby! Here are some essentials that every parent should have when bringing their littlest one along to the beach.

Snacks and Water

If we’re eating at the beach, I like to pack a separate snack-style lunch box for each person. That way, the baby safe snacks are separate. And of course, bring lots of water so everybody stays hydrated!

A Sun Hat that Stays-on

A hat is definitely essential when babies are spending time in the sun. It can be hard to find a great beach hat and spoiler alert, they don’t all love wearing them! A few years ago, we were so happy to find these hats from a local Vancouver company that were perfect. A huge bonus is most of their hats are adjustable. Our five-year-old wore the same one four summers in a row! We used these baby caps a lot last summer when our baby was mostly in a carrier. They’re perfectly soft for new babies' heads and is our first pick for baby wearing!

UV Protective Clothing

No one wants to be reapplying sunscreen all day long, and guess what? There’s a better way! UV clothing helps us get out in the sun faster and stay out longer. It gives me the confidence that my baby is well protected the whole time. I love that Jan & Jul’s protection comes from the fabric weave, so it’s baby safe with no harmful chemicals.

Sunglasses with a Strap

To protect their little eyes, sunglasses are a must for any baby beach day. Look for ones designed for babies like these with a strap to help keep them on. They’re basically unbreakable and BPA, phthalate and PVC free. My toddler loves to wear them too!

Final Tips

Although sand in your baby’s mouth is pretty inevitable, a beach blanket/sheet can help keep some of that sand away. We sit in the shade under a tree or bring our shade tent if there won’t be any natural shade. Beach toys are great, but we only bring a few. There’s always lots to play with in nature, like shells, rocks and twigs. Plus, it’s nice not to have to keep track of a million toys and remember to take them home!

So, if you’re a beach lover with a baby, don’t fret! You can still get out for a baby beach day with a little bit of planning. Make sure you’re UV-protected, pack the right gear, and you're on your way to have fun in the sun, safely!
